The problem with IMDB, or any other publicly contributed site is
reliability. IMDB is known for lacking in this department. I have found
several mistakes regarding MASH, some of which were pure fiction.
Caution is recommended when checking with IMDB.

Very true. I found that out when I read on IMDB about a supposed punch-
up between Jaimie Farr & Alan Alda. I posted it here only to find out
some idiot with no life had made it all up.

long battle with breast cancer."
Like all losses, this makes me sad. I spent as much time with Pat as I
could whenever the circumstances permitted. She was a terrific actress
whose full potential never quite made it into the light. Truth is, I had
a crush on her. She was very very funny, and we tried to make each other
laugh as much as possible. Oddly enough, I was just thinking of her the
other day.

Love to you Pat.

You know, that sure would have made some memorable scenes. Igor wooing
Nurse Baker. I bet the writers would have been able to turn that into
a very beautiful episode, or two.

At the chow line:
Pierce: So, beej, when do you think we'll ever get some relief from
this heat?
BJ: Maybe couple more days. I wonder how Peg and Erin are?
Baker: At least you two guys don't have to work in the kitchen.
Igor: Thank you sir, I mean, ma'am.
Baker: Bet it gets hot in the kitchen?
Pierce: We could go down to the river and cool off? The two of us?
Igor: Thanks, sir, but I have pans to scrub.
Baker: Why don't you chase Nurse Perky for a while, and maybe Igor and
I can meet for a cup of awful coffee after dinner?
BJ: You know, nurse Baker, you do have great taste in cooks. It helps
if you can't taste the food.
Radar: We just got a shipment of 1932 surplus chicken wings. Maybe
we'll have those for dinner, with the 1946 surplus ice cream bars?
Igor: I'll boil the ice cream bars, for you, sir.
Baker: That's sweet. How about if we go down to the motor pool after
you scrub your pots?

With your kind permission, Jeff, I bet the entire M*A*S*H community
here would like to read what you wrote.
Here it is:

"I played the role of Private Igor, the cook, on the television
series MASH. It's been over thirty years since I had the pleasure of working
with Pat on that show. She appeared a number of times as the character of
Nurse Baker. Pat was genuinely funny and brought humor and light to every
moment she had on screen. I've always been a fan of funny people, and I was
a big fan of Pat's. My condolences to her family. Jeff Maxwell"

I can't picture her at all.
It seems M*A*S*H wanted to keep the nurses somewhat anonymous by calling
many of them Nurse Able or Nurse Baker (although Linda Kelsey's Nurse Baker
had a large role in "The Nurses" made more memorable now by knowing the
actress from her role on Lou Grant the following year).

They used the names "Able" and "Baker" because those names were used in army
radio communications. However, they did keep them somewhat anonymous.

As is 'Charlie', such as in the ep. titled, "Five O'Clock Charlie."

However, they did keep them somewhat anonymous.
Which was to M*A*S*H's discredit, since it robbed many-an-actress
of some future recognition in such a high-profile series, from the masses.
Luckily, they didn't also do that to the visiting nurses, such as
to 'Lt. Carlye Walton'; played by the gorgeous, talented, and funny Blythe
Danner in (IMHO) the best Hawkeye-romance episode.

What about Marcia Strassman, Linda Kelsey...
One can also argue that MASH, because it was a high-profile series, gave a
start to many an actor / actress... Geroge Wendt / Lawrence Fishburn /
Andrew Clay / Shelly Long / Teri Garr / Paul Young ... lots more. People
whose names you know now, but not then.
And Patricia Stevens did a lot of voice-over work.
When asked why Mrs. Gelbart wasn't in more episodes, LG told me that the
producers wanted to give starving actors the chance to make some money. Many
made the most of that.

Different set of circumstances. She was fairly established and at the time,
didn't do 1/2 hour television shows. She made an exception for MASH, partly
because it was a major part, partly because of Gene and Larry. They also
didn't do that to Mary Wickes who was also established at the time and she
too was given a major role. These actresses were not starving.
Many actors / actresses credit MASH with launching their careers.

Most series (if not all) have appearances from actors just starting out

M*A*S*H is hardly unique in that regard.
